Privacy Policy

BRAKR is used by people trying to stop gambling. That makes almost everything in it sensitive, and this page says exactly what we hold and what we do not.

The short version

  • We do not sell your data, and we never have. No advertising networks, no data brokers, no cross-app tracking.
  • The list of apps and websites you block never leaves your iPhone. Apple’s Screen Time tokens stay in a protected container on the device.
  • The panic screen’s camera does not record. It is a mirror. There is no capture output, nothing is written to disk, and nothing is uploaded.
  • You can delete your account and its contents from inside the app, in Settings, without emailing anyone.

What we collect

BRAKR works with an account so your record survives losing your phone. Here is everything tied to that account.

Account
Your email address, and a display name if you set one. If you use Sign in with Apple and choose to hide your email, we only ever see Apple’s relay address.
Your record
Check-ins, whether a day involved gambling, the mood you picked, urges you logged, and the amount you have chosen to track as money kept.
Your reason
The free text you write on the “why I started” screen, if you write one. It is stored so it can be shown back to you, and for no other purpose.
Custom blocked sites
Website addresses you add yourself, so protection follows you to a new device. Apps you select are not included — see below.
Community
Posts, comments, reactions, your community profile and avatar, who you have blocked, and any reports you file.
Subscription
Whether you have an active subscription, and its renewal state. Apple handles the payment; we never see your card, and Apple does not give it to us.
Product analytics
Which screens you open and which actions you take, an anonymous device identifier, and app version and device model. Used to find what is broken and what nobody can find.
Diagnostics
Crash reports, including a stack trace and the device state at the moment of a crash, plus a short trail of the actions that led up to it.
Notifications
A push token, so a reminder can reach your device. Notifications are optional and you can turn them off in iOS Settings at any time.

We do not ask for your location, your contacts, your photos, your health records, or your financial accounts, and BRAKR contains no code that reads them.

What never leaves your iPhone

BRAKR blocks apps and websites using Apple’s Screen Time framework (Family Controls). When you choose which apps to block, iOS hands the app opaque tokens rather than app names. Those tokens are meaningless off the device that made them.

Your app selection is written only to a protected app group container on your iPhone, encrypted at rest by iOS Data Protection. It is never uploaded, never included in a report, and never visible to us.

The panic screen shows a live view from the front camera. It is drawn straight to the screen with no capture output attached, so no frame is ever saved or transmitted, and the camera session ends the moment you close the screen. Screen recording is paused for the whole time that screen is open.

If you turn on the app lock, Face ID is performed entirely by iOS. We receive only a yes or no, never your biometric data.

Screen recording

To find out where the app confuses people, BRAKR records a masked playback of app screens using Amplitude Session Replay. You should know this plainly, because it is more than most apps do.

What that means in practice:

  • Text you type is masked before it leaves the device. We see shapes, not words.
  • Recording is switched off entirely — not merely masked — while the panic screen, the daily check-in, the “why I started” screen, every Community screen, and the protection setup flow are open.
  • Recordings are tied to a device identifier, not to your name or email.
  • We never use recordings for advertising or profiling, and we never sell them.

Community posts and profiles

Anything you post in Community is visible to other people using BRAKR. Treat it as public. Your community profile shows the display name and avatar you chose, not your email address.

Posts and comments are moderated. You can report a post or a person from inside the app, and you can block someone so their content no longer reaches you. Reports go to a moderation queue that our moderators review, and we keep a record of moderation decisions so repeated behaviour can be acted on.

Deleting your account removes your profile and detaches you from what you wrote. Where a comment thread would otherwise become unreadable, the remaining text stays without any link to you.

Who processes your data

We use a small number of vendors, each bound to process data only on our instructions. These are all of them.

Supabase
Our database and sign-in. Holds your account, your record, your reason, your custom blocked sites and everything in Community.
RevenueCat
Subscription state, working from Apple’s receipts. No card details.
PostHog
Product analytics — screens opened and actions taken — and crash diagnostics when the app fails.
Amplitude
Masked session replay, as described above.
OneSignal
Delivery of push notifications, if you allow them.
Apple
Sign in with Apple, App Store purchases, and Screen Time. Apple’s handling is governed by Apple’s own privacy policy.

These vendors operate in the United States and the European Union, so your data may be processed in either. Where personal data leaves the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, it is transferred under the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses.

How long we keep it

  • Your account and record: until you delete your account. Deletion is immediate and permanent — we cannot restore it afterwards.
  • Analytics and session replays: up to 12 months, then removed automatically.
  • Crash diagnostics: up to 90 days.
  • Moderation records: kept after account deletion only where needed to enforce a ban or to meet a legal obligation, and never longer than 24 months.
  • Backups: deleted content can persist in encrypted backups for up to 30 days before those roll off.

Your rights and choices

Wherever you live, you can ask us for a copy of your data, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you also have the right to object to or restrict processing, the right to data portability, and the right to complain to your local data protection authority. If you are in California, you have the rights to know, delete, correct, and to opt out of sale or sharing — we do not sell or share your personal information as those terms are defined.

The fastest route to deletion is in the app: Settings → Delete Account. For anything else, email support@getbrakr.app and we will answer within 30 days. See Your Privacy Choices for the specific opt-outs.

Deleting your BRAKR account does not cancel your subscription. Cancel it in your Apple subscription settings — only Apple can do that.

Children

BRAKR is not intended for anyone under 18, we do not knowingly collect data from children, and we delete any such account we become aware of.

Changes and contact

If we change this policy in a way that materially affects you, we will say so in the app before the change takes effect. The effective date at the top always reflects the current version.
